The stated display size range for a mount found on the carton, product sell sheet, or webpage is intended as a general selection guideline. Displays that exceed the published screen size range may still be compatible, provided the VESA mounting pattern is supported and the display weight does not exceed the mount’s maximum load rating.

Selecting the correct flat panel mounting solution is critical to a successful installation. Universal mounts are often ideal because they adjust to support a wide range of display brands, sizes, and VESA patterns. Before installation begins, confirm the wall or ceiling structure (wood stud, metal stud, concrete, etc.) and ensure the correct fasteners are available for that application. Always verify that the mount manufacturer includes – or offers – the proper hardware for your specific installation conditions.

Select mounting solutions that are fully tested and certified. 

  • UL-listed mounts are evaluated to safely support their rated load and withstand real-world installation stresses. Mounts that are not UL listed may not have been independently tested or validated, introducing uncertainty around load capacity, installation performance, and long-term reliability.
  • VESA-compliant mounts adhere to display manufacturers’ mechanical mounting standards, ensuring proper fit and dependable operation.
  • Products manufactured in ISO 9001–certified facilities further support consistent quality and performance.

Plan for power and signal routing before mounting the display. Knowing the exact make and model of the display allows you to anticipate connection locations and determine where cables should enter or exit the wall or ceiling. Consider how cables will be managed and concealed – many mounting solutions offer integrated cable management or cable management accessories to maintain a clean, professional appearance.

Evaluate the room layout, viewing angles, and how the display will be used. This will help determine whether a fixed, tilting, pivoting, or full-motion mount is required. For highly visible installations, such as digital signage or public-facing displays, appearance, functionality, and serviceability are especially important. Involving the end user early and educating them on mounting options helps ensure the selected solution meets both performance and aesthetic expectations.

Whether working with new construction or an existing structure, verify that the wall or ceiling can safely support the combined weight of the display and mount. If structural integrity is uncertain, consult a qualified architect, structural engineer, or building professional before proceeding.

Large flat panel displays can often be mounted to a single wood stud when the proper mount and fasteners are used. Select a UL-listed mount specifically rated for single-stud installation, as these mounts are tested to support significantly more than their stated load rating.

Review all clearance requirements prior to installation. If the mount design requires the display to hook or slide onto the wall plate, ensure there is adequate space above the mount. For articulating or full-motion mounts, confirm that there is sufficient clearance for the arm to extend, swivel, and tilt without obstruction. Manufacturer specification sheets, installation instructions and product videos are valuable resources during this step.

Displays should be handled carefully at all times. While it is often acceptable to briefly lay a display face down on a clean, padded surface to attach the mount, always follow the display manufacturer’s handling and installation guidelines. Improper handling can damage the panel and void warranties.

Never alter a mount or add components not approved by the manufacturer. Modifying a mounting solution can compromise its structural integrity, invalidate safety certifications, and create serious safety risks.

Always review and follow the installation instructions provided by both the mount and display manufacturers. Installing large, heavy, and fragile equipment involves important safety considerations. Taking the time to understand the instructions reduces errors, improves efficiency, and ensures a safe, professional installation.
